alma Edelstein
Dancer, Choreographer and dance pedagogue for professional education
Based in Berlin and originally from Argentina, Alma has an international career spanning over 20 years. Her experience as a dancer encompasses work with both, established and freelance dance companies, including Norrdans, DIN-A13, Landestheater Linz, Landestheater Coburg, Stadttheater Hildesheim, Landestheater Flensburg, and Theater Hagen, among others. Her academic background is anchored in a Bachelor's degree from Anton Brückner University (Austria) and a Master's degree from Palucca Hochschule für Tanz in Dresden (Germany)
In recent years, Alma has dedicated herself to refining her teaching methods and expanding her physical vocabulary, culminating in opportunities to instruct contemporary dance at esteemed institutions like Oporto Ballet Conservatory (Portuga), Danceworks Berlin and the University of Buenos Aires. Since 2019, she has been regularly invited to teach professional training at distinguished German dance venues, including Marameo in Berlin, Leipzig profi-training, and Hannover profi-training, organised by Tanzpunkt.
In 2020, amidst global challenges, she created a 10-minute duet that earned invitations to prestigious international dance festivals such as MASDANZA (SP), Florence Dance Festival (IT), "Platform14" (DE), "SongBum Dance Festival" (Seoul/KOR), Tanzwerkstatt Europa (DE), Tanzzeit Part VI at LOT Theater, Braunschweig and Erfurt Dance Festival (DE), among others. The work garnered significant prizes, including a tour of the Canary Islands at Masdanza, a jury prize at the Bulgarian Choreographic Competition LINKAGE, and several sponsorships from the Goethe Institute.
In the summer of 2022, Alma received research funding from Kulturbüro Hannover, setting the backbone for further developing what, later on, would become her first full-length dance production, "BAOBAB". BAOBAB premiered in June 2023 and was co-funded by MBK, Stiftung Niedersachsen, and Kulturbüro Hannover. It also received a co-production collaboration with EISFABRIK, playing a prominent role in opening and closing the Int. dance festival TanzOFFensive in Hannover.
"Baobab" was also presented twice at LOT Theater last September and received exceptionally positive reviews from the regional newspaper HAZ. While creating this work, Alma received a residency grant for theoretical research from LOT Theater and FONDS DAKU.
"Baobab" consists of nine scenes, some of which can be presented as standalone miniature works. Just as the solo "Mandragora," and the duet “Solanaceae”. Mandragora inaugurated the Int. Dance Festival TanzOFFensive in May 2023 in Hannover and was selected to perform at the Int. Dance Festival "Quinzena de Danza de Almada" in Portugal. The duet "Solanaceae" was a finalist at the Int. choreographic competition LINKAGE hosted at the State Opera in Bulgaria and sponsored by the Region Hannover.
